Vintage Pen Repairs & Restoration

Vintage Pens Repair & Restoration

With very rare exception, we no longer offer a pen repair service, other than for warrantee repairs for the pens we sell.

Vintage Pens Repair Pricing

A typical vintage pen repair includes disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning of component, rebuilding the filling system with new replaceable parts (i.e., bladder, diaphragm, seals, gaskets, etc.), reassembly, nib smoothing, polishing and testing.  The price varies from US $50.00  to US $75.00 USD depending on the make and model of your pen and the actual bench time which required to complete the restoration. Additional services, such as parts replacement, parts rebuilding, parts fabrication (i.e. lathe work), nib grinding, parts plating, removal of cap posting marks, removal of surface scratches, iridium replacement, sealing cracks, etc., are all additional and vary.  Shipping and insurance are charged at actual cost (no packaging or handling charges).  6.35% sales tax is charged for sales within Connecticut.

Warranty on Vintage Pens Repair

90 days on parts and labor. Shipping and handling costs excluded. Note: We cannot accept responsibility for pens and or parts that are damaged in the repair and restoration process because of their age, the brittleness of some materials and the difficulty in finding replacement parts.

If you need work done on a vintage pen, contact us with your requirements and we can give you an estimate of the cost of repair.

When shipping pens to us, be sure to include instructions about what you need done with each pen.  And, of course, don’t forget to include a return address inside your package.

Two Vintage Pens Appraisel Services are Offered:

1. EmailYou can send an image to us in email and we will try to tell you what vintage pen it is. There is no charge for this service.  Make sure that the vintage pens(s) are easily seen in the image and not blurry or over/under exposed. Please do not send large image files. Try to keep them below 250K.  We cannot provide more than a rough estimate of value through email (especially since we most often do not know condition), and generally limit this service to no more than two or three pens.

2. Written AppraisalWe provide written appraisals of Vintage pens. These appraisals take a form similar to the Vintage Pens Catalog listings.
For example:

MONTBLANC. Circa 1935. Model 40 Masterpiece (Montblanc’s top-of-the-line model). Push Knob Filler. Coral Red. Very rare. Gold filled trim. Fine, italic nib. Some imprint wear, but fully readable, otherwise near mint.  Value $1,400 to $1,600.

The charge for this service is $75 per hour. We can appraise approximately 6-10 vintage pens per hour.  To do this, you must send the pen(s) to us.  Contact us to discuss shipping and payment arrangements. If you have any questions, please let us know.
