1900 Aikin Lambert “Poinsettia” #2 eyedropper-fill straight-sided in repousse gold-filled “Poinsettia on hand hammered background” pattern (very rare). Aiken Lambert was a NYC based manufacturer founded in 1864. They started making pens in the late 1880s, all high quality. They supplied gold nibs to Waterman who, in 1915 acquired the company to ensure their continued supply. A wonderful example, with an unengraved barrel indicia and no brassing evident anywhere. Extra-fine, semi-flexible nib. Tiny signs of wear at the smooth metal just at the top and bottom of the barrel, otherwise near mint+. It’s doubtful you’ll ever find a better example! 1920 Mabie Todd “Jackdaw” Toledo LF in Damascened-inlay overlay on Woodgrain Hard Rubber. Damascening is the art of hand inlaying different metals into one another, typically, 24K gold or fine silver hammered into a darkly oxidized steel background, to produce intricate patterns and designs. The English term comes from a perceived resemblance to the rich tapestry patterns of damask silk. Often called “Toledo” because much of the art comes from Toledo, Spain, a steel working center since about 500 BC (still doing damascening today). The cap & barrel each with two dragons and other flourish designs. Jackdaw was Mabie Todd’s student level pen, but generally of good quality (often even better than their “Blackbird” model pens) and are rare today. The theory is that because of their quality and price point, parents tended to buy lesser prices pens for their kids. Then along comes this extremely rare pen with “Toledo” Damascene work! Nib and feed both signed “Jackdaw” (one of the famous fine, triple-flexible Jackdaw nibs!). There are less than a handful of these known to exist. Incredibly fine and beautiful work! 1946 Montblanc 139 Meisterstuck PIF in Black. Visualated window, still with perfect pinstriping. GFT. Cap with outer cap bands in sterling silver. This pen was the model for the limited edition Hemingway. Two-toned, medium/broad, extra-flexible nib. Near mint.

1950 Montblanc 246 PIF in Tiger’s Eye (Brown Striated). One of Montblanc’s most beautiful and desirable celluloids. GFT. Medium, italic nib. Some cap band brassing, otherwise near mint.

1952 Montblanc 149 PIF in Black Celluloid. GFT, except for the sterling silver outer cap bands. 3-tone, 14C medium/broad nib with flat, grooved feed. Visualated barrel, with perfect vertical lines. Near mint+.

1914 Parker Model 34 Long Version Button-fill in Sterling Silver “Chased Filigree” barrel overlay and cap crown. The button-fill model is much rarer than the eyedropper-fill version, both with the same model number. Parker introduced the button-fill in 1913 to compete with Sheaffer’s lever-fill. Parker called them the “Parker press-the Button Self-filling pens.” Beautiful age patina. Fine, semi-flexible nib. Near mint and excruciatingly rare!

1929 Pelikan First-Year piston-fill pen, usually called a Model 100, but actually had no model number at all until 1930. Very rare! Characteristics include a straight-sided inner cap, no cap bands, Bakelite barrel, long-slender gripping section, and nib with a heart shaped vent hole (medium/fine, flexible). Very minor discoloration of the jade binde (usually found much darker), otherwise near mint. A wonderful addition to anyone’s Pelikan collection.

1932 Pullman #2 BF in Octagonal Double-laminated gold-filled. Clip signed “Patent” and “Pullman.” Center of cap in “Checkerboard” pattern, the rest of the pen in “Barley” pattern. Nib signed “Pullman 14 CTS F” (fine, extra-flexible). Very high quality and very rare! Opens and closes by pushing up & pulling down the barrel, which opens and closes the hinged crown on the non-removable cap. Knurled blind-cap. Few were made, fewer survived as folks broke them trying to unscrew the cap! Near mint+. Shown open and closed.

1932 Meteore (Pullman) #1 BF in Black Hard Rubber over a brass lining. Unsigned cap and barrel, other than “PATENT” on clip. Correct “D & D Paris 18 Cts 1” nib (Demley & Degan were the founders of La Plume d’Or, the French company which licensed the Pullman technology). This high quality, rare and famous pen, which opens and closes by pushing up & pulling down the barrel, which opens and closes the hinged crown on the non-removable cap. Few were made, fewer survived as folks broke them trying to unscrew the cap! Medium, extra-flexible nib. Near mint+. Shown open and closed.

1930 Tri-Pen #4 in Black & Pearl. The company previously produced triangular shaped pencils, many sold imprinted as advertising specialties. Eventually, in the 1920’s, producing fountain pens and naming the model as the Triad Pen. Very high quality, but few survived because folks didn’t realize the triangular-shaped caps didn’t turn. The cap lifts straight up off the pen once the top cap is turned (clockwise) to unscrew the inner cap from the barrel! GFT. Medium/fine nib. A bit of clip brassing, otherwise near mint.

1915 Waterman 554 LF in 14K solid gold on BHR. “Hand Engraved Vine” pattern. Indicia engraved, “R.A.Q.” Fine, extra-flexible, italic nib. Near mint+.

1913 Soennecken Model 814 Safety eyedropper-fill in Black Chased Hard Rubber. Beautiful, crisp chasing without discernable wear. Medium/fine, extra-flexible nib. A few minor scars on the turning knob, and has been filled (perhaps 100 years ago?), otherwise near mint. Shown open with nib propelled.

1913 Soennecken Model 11820 Safety eyedropper-fill in 14K Solid Gold Overlay on BHR. Alternating wave-chased and plain panels. The model number on the pen is covered by the overlay. I do believe this is the “20″ size, the largest size manufactured. Extra-fine/fine nib. Minor dents and dings to the cap and barrel, and has been filled (perhaps 100 years ago?), otherwise near mint. 1927 Soennecken Rheingold 912 BF in Jade. Early model, the cap-top with the “S” in a white circle and surrounding sunburst, and the button in black (later models did not have the white circle on the cap-top and the button was changed to white). GFT. Visualated barrel. Medium nib. A touch of ambering to the cap and minor ambering to the barrel (far, far better than most found), otherwise near mint.

1930 Soennecken Rheingold No. 911 BF in Black. GFT. Visualated barrel. The sleeve at the bottom of the pen is turned to reveal the filler-button. This is the earliest model, with a black button. 1950 Barclay 1304/809 #4 size Vac-fill in 835 Coin Silver with alternating wave-chased and Barley panels. CP clip. High Quality pen, made in Czechoslovakia, with Czech. control marks on cap and barrel. Removing the blind cap reveals a hollow clear acrylic plunger which is pressed several times to fill the pen. The hollow plunger also actually fills with ink, allowing the user to monitor the ink level in the pen. Alloy nib sighed “Centropen Iridium 42″ (medium). Near mint, and quite rare.

The gauge on this model runs from 1M (thousand) to 7M. GFT, including the chased cap band and “Rocker” clip. Fine nib. Very minor surface scratches noticeable with a loop, otherwise near mint.

1930 7 “Yellow Banded” LF in Red Ripple with “Yellow ” cap band and corresponding nib (medium “rounded, writes smooth in any direction, suits southpaws” and right-handed writers as well). Waterman used a color coding system so buyers could select their style of nib by “color.” It was their answer to Wahl Eversharp’s Personal Point pen. GFT. A very late version, with a narrower than usual clip, no cap band and a then new “shovel” lever rather than the “globe” lever. Made from leftover parts as Waterman was converting from hard rubber pens to Celluloid pens (with the introduction of the Patrician). A touch of clip ball brassing, otherwise near mint+.
